Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with
mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids
peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in
cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it and massage oil,
for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore Throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take
1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two
tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms.
Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost
instantly -- even though the product has never
been advertised for this use.

Eliminate puffiness under your eyes..... All you need is a dab of
preparation H, carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes. The
hemorrhoid ointment acts as a vasoconstrictor, relieving the swelling

Honey remedy for skin blemishes... Cover the blemish with a dab of honey
and place a band-aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin,
sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus... Get rid of unsightly toenail
fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful
antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.

Easy eyeglass protection... To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from
loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to
the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Coca-Cola cure for rust... Forget those expensive rust removers. Just
saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain.
The phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done.

Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer... If menacing bees, wasps,
hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the
insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground
instantly.

Smart splinter remover.. just pour a drop of Elmers Glue all over the
splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter
sticks to the dried glue.

Hunt's tomato paste boil cure... cover the boil with Hunt's tomato paste

the boil to a head.

Balm for broken blisters... To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few
drops of Listerine... a powerful antiseptic.

Heinz vinegar to heal bruises... Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and
apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and
speeds up the healing process.

Kills fleas instantly. Dawn dish washing liquid does the trick. Add a few
drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to
avoid skin irritations. Goodbye fleas.

Rainy day cure for dog odor... Next time your dog comes in from the
rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly
making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Eliminate ear mites... All it takes is a few drops of Wesson corn oil in
your cat's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily
for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and
accelerates healing.

Vaseline cure for hair balls..... To prevent troublesome hair balls,
apply a dollop of Vaseline petroleum jelly to your cat's nose. The cat will

2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the
microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hand for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

• For speedy breakfasts, store all breakfast foods on one shelf in the refrigerator and one shelf in your cupboard.
• Only buy storage and mixing containers that double up as freezer, oven, and serving containers to save clutter and shelf space and trying to keep track of different care instructions for each.
• Add a couple of grains of rice to your salt shaker to keep it dry and un-clumped.
• Place fresh mint in your cupboards near or inside flour and grain containers to ward off mealy worms and allow it to dry out and lose its odor before replacing. Putting a stick of strong mint gum inside the containers does the same thing.

• Twice a year—Memorial Day in May and Labor Day in September are good choices—throw away all of your medicines and makeup. Buy new medicines for the season such as cold & flu pills for daytime and nighttime use, medicated foot powder or spray, anti-itch topical cremes, antibacterial spray or cream, and various Band-Aids. Update all first-aid kits or buy some for the following places: one in each car, one in the kitchen, one in the garage, and one in each bathroom.
• Attach a long magnetized knife rack inside the medicine cabinet to hold small metal items like scissors, tweezers, shavers, bobby pins.
• Glass shower doors stay cleaner longer if you spray them lightly with furniture polish like Pledge or lemon oil.

• Tired of finding hangers everywhere or constantly buying hangers only to have them "disappear"? Assign each person a color in your household and buy 50 hangers for each person in that color. If one person has more clothes than someone else, it will be easy to tell who needs more hangers or who might be borrowing them.
• Help children keep track of their own clothing care by designating 5 of their own colored hangers as M-F hangers to speed up their get dressed time. (Adult can do the same for their outfits for work!)
• Keep track of your belts: using clothing pins, clip them onto a hanger of their own and either hang it on its own hook somewhere or tie a ribbon around the top of the hanger to keep track of where it is in your closet.
• No storage space for extra blankets? Try storing them in between your mattress and box spring!

• Get rid of your 10 yr. collection of unmatched socks! Issue everyone in your household his/her own mesh laundry bag with their name written on it in permanent marker. Any sock not in the mesh sack doesn’t get washed. All socks that show up without getting claimed by the 30^th of each month get thrown away.

• Try to arrange your bills to be due to correspond with your pay periods. For example, if you are paid monthly, have them all due on the same day. If bi-weekly or weekly, arrange your bills to be due twice a month. This will help avoid missing bill dates and trying to keep track of when each one is due.
• Get 12 folders and label them for each month. All store and credit card receipts, statements, and bills should go in them as they arrive. Empty your car, purse, or wallet once a week of any loose receipts and before you start reconciling and paying your bills.
• Buy a 3" 3-ring notebook with dividers. Every time you get an updated legal document or new contract (i.e., drivers’ license, passport, school ID, will, car insurance policy, home owners insurance policy, health insurance cards, furnace maintenance, gardeners, etc…) Make a copy of it or staple the originals together and put it in the binder with a label. Pull the old ones out and file them with that year’s bills in the permanent folder/file cabinet or shred. You will always be able to find your latest information and if there is an emergency, you have only to just grab that one thing before leaving.
